15/20 years anniversary
In 2019, the same year as SalsaNor celebrated their 20 year anniversary, the Maykel Blanco orchestra turned 15 years. What a great idea it would be to celebrate together! SalsaNor invited the band to do two grand concerts in Norway to celebrate, in Oslo and in Stavanger. Have a look here (video).
Band leader at 15 years old
Band leader Maykel Blanco is the youngest musician to ever lead a Cuban big band. He started his education as a percussionist from the age of 12, and formed his first band already when he was 15 years old.

As a 23-year-old in 2005, he established the 14-member orchestra Salsa Mayor, and after a short career with the orchestra received various awards, both national and international, for “Best salsa orchestra”, “Best music event”, “Best Live of the Year” performance ”etc.
Breakthrough in 2010
Their big breakthrough was in 2010 with the album “Soy lo que te hala”, and since then the 15-man orchestra has annually toured Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America. The album “Que no me quiten la fé” which was released in 2016 created a new boom in salsa environments all over the world, and when the orchestra played for the first time in Norway in October 2017, also invited by SalsaNor, the concert was sold out, as a first-timer for a Cuban band in Norway.
