SalsaNor is a non-profit cultural organization founded in Norway in 1999 to promote Latin American and Caribbean dance and music cultures.
The initiator of the establishment of SalsaNor was Reidun Svabø. SalsaNor organizes (as of 2024) a range of events, including dance courses, workshops, social dance evenings, and large festivals.
In the 2000s, SalsaNor expanded and started various dance festivals, including the international, annual festival “Oslo Caribbean Feeling.” One of SalsaNor’s main activities is organizing dance courses and workshops in various dance styles, including salsa, bachata, and rueda de casino. The organization has also pioneered the organization of “world championships” in rueda de casino, which is a Cuban circle dance based on salsa.
In 2002, SalsaNor took the initiative to introduce a standardization of calls and expressions used in Rueda de Casino with what started as the “Rueda Standard.” This has grown to include international participants and instructors who collectively have and continue to develop the dance form.
