In open position the couple is connected with one hand, keeping the other hand free.
The basic step in open position is called guapea. Most figures start from this position, but a few start when the partners are side by side. For example in dame una, where you start the figure by turning to the your next partner, doing a dile que no.

dile que si
tell her yes
This figure is the opposite of dile que no. It takes you from open position to closed position.
The caller should call another command before this one ends. If not, the next move should be whatever is considered the most basic in closed position, which might very well be vamos arriba.

patineta
skateboard
Patineta is similar to patin para mujeres, but patineta is easier to learn, because the ladies do not change partner.
Patineta also seems to be more known among Cubans than patin pa’mujeres.
This is the most common variation of the various commands where you change partner and clap. The first number is the number of your partner (the first, second, third, ..) and the second number is the count of claps.

paseala por arriba
“paseala” up
Not the difference between “por arriba” (up) and “para arriba” (upward).
“Por arriba” is not very common in rueda calls. In this figure it means for the man/leader to lead the hand up above his head while doing the paseala. In rueda, “para arriba” usually refers to changing partner in the arriba (upward) direction, like in dame una arriba.
