Los Conquistadores de la Salsa

Los Conquistadores de la Salsa

Our partner artist Los Conquistadores de la Salsa was founded in Havana by Cuban pianist Robert Armas almost twenty years ago, then relocated to Peru the following year—where the project has flourished ever since. Often cited as the first group to bring Cuban timba to Peru, this Cuban-Peruvian orchestra has grown into one of Latin America’s most respected salsa outfits. Their sound blends tight, piano-driven montunos, punchy horn lines, and a hard-grooving rhythm section with coros built for call-and-response—music designed for dancers and listeners alike.
In recent years the band has been on a true salsa conquest, touring Europe five times and landing several crowd-pleasing hits across the continent. On stage they deliver energetic, polished shows that move effortlessly from classic salsa sabor to gear-shifting timba intensity, always keeping the dance floor in motion.
To hear the story in their own words—and to catch performance insights straight from the source—check out our video interview with Robert Armas and the orchestra. It’s a great primer on how Los Conquistadores de la Salsa helped shape Peru’s timba scene while staying rooted in Cuba’s rich musical tradition.
